First-Time Photographer

A few weeks ago, I told you about a quick trip home that turned out to be very serendipitous.

Not only did I get to meet renowned horse photographer Bob Langrish, I also got to play the part of photographer myself.

The local veterinarian in my hometown is an avid horseman who breeds Arabians. Because I worked at his clinic throughout high school, I was able to see many of the foals born on his ranch, Docs Arabians.

Once I knew I was flying home for my friend’s wedding, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to mix business with pleasure and set up a photo shoot. (Admittedly, when you love your job, the lines between business and pleasure are already blurred!)

I spent most of an afternoon photographing as many horses as could be rounded up, and I realized just how difficult it can be to photograph horses.

I definitely gained a new appreciation for those who shoot for Horse&Rider!

Though it was a bit exhausting, it was definitely a blast! I would also say it was a success. I got quite a few shots for a couple different magazine departments, and I even rounded up a horse that “We’d Love to Own!”
