On Friday, I got to enjoy some sunshine in Pueblo, Colorado, at the NRCHA Hackamore Classic. After Colorado’s latest snowstorm on Wednesday last week, when the show kicked off with herd work, the riders and horses welcomed the 60-degree temps and sunshine.
The big run I saw was Tammy Hays and Two Kitties, her sorrel mare that she also piloted to March’s NRCHA Non-Pro Stakes title. The pair marked a 430 composite, 146 down the fence, to win the Hackamore Classic Non-Pro title.
It’s always a treat to shoot photos outside in warm weather at a show or a barn. I’m reminded of that today, as I sit in my Escondido, California, hotel room, looking at drenching, photo-shoot-stalling rain. I have to remind myself that we need the rain, and a photo shoot can hold off for a few hours.
