Summer is always a busy time in the horse-magazine business. It’s often the best time of year to head out on photo shoots (especially locally, here in Colorado), and there are numerous events to get out and experience. On top of that, we’re always busy producing the next issue of the magazine. It’s a marathon every month.
During the past month, Julie and I road-tripped to Pueblo for the NRCHA Hackamore Classic, I traveled to Colonial Williamsburg for the American Horse Publications convention and awards ceremony, and I drove down to Alamosa, Colorado to meet up with cow horse trainer Blue Allen for an upcoming feature and a Private Lesson. Oh, and on top of that, I moved into a new house, with my two small kids and husband. Phew!
So, today the five-person staff gets to take a deep breath, maybe even clean off our desks, before we dive into the September issue tomorrow. You know, the one with the annual blanket feature? Yes, we’ll be pining over the newest innovations in blankets at every price point while it’s 100 degrees outside and the sun is blazing down on our horses’ backs.
At the moment, I’m just happy to be out of the whirlwind. At least for today. Tomorrow, bring on the next round of insanity!
