If your horse bolts his grain, he could be at higher risk for choke or colic. If putting rocks in his feed bucket doesn’t slow him down, try these other strategies.
• Put a salt or mineral lick in his bucket;
• Spread his grain in a thin layer across a large feeder;
• Try feeding him smaller portions several times a day rather than large rations once or twice a day;
• Spread a layer of hay across the top of his grain so that he has to nose through the hay to get to the grain. The hay will help add roughage and reduce the concentration of his feed.
