Control Thick Hair Under Your Western Hat

When it’s not controlled, thick hair prevents your hat from sitting low around your forehead, where it’s more secure (and looks better) than it does perched on the crown of your head. Here’s how to redistribute and contain thick hair for a better fit and look.

  • Divide your hair in half, just behind your ears and up and around the top of your head.
  • Secure this section into a simple top-side pony tail.
  • Smooth and tuck down onto the crown of your head (use bobby pins, as they don’t add the bulk that clips or barrettes do).
  • Then shape the rest of your hair into a neat bun, securing sides with bobby pins as needed.
